Handyman Jobs in Heaton Grove – TV Mounting, Bracket Swap & Keter Shed Assembly

Today’s job was in the new-build estate Heaton Grove, just off the A6 in Heaton Chapel.

These homes are modern, clean and finished well, but like most new builds, they come with a long list of small jobs that homeowners need help with — furniture assembly, TV mounting, shelving and outdoor storage.

This visit covered several tasks in one go.

What the Client Needed

The homeowner asked for:

• A light switch replacement

• Two shelves fitted

• A TV mounted in the main bedroom

• A TV bracket replaced in the second bedroom

• A Keter outdoor storage shed assembled

A good mix of indoor and outdoor work.

What We Found on Arrival

1. Light Switch Issue (Abandoned for Safety)

The customer provided their own switch, but like many new builds in Stockport, the wiring was:

• not standard

• not compatible with the replacement switch

• required a qualified electrician

We abandoned this part of the job to avoid incorrect installation or risk.

This actually protects the customer and boosts your trust rating.

2. TV Mounting – Bracket Not Suitable

The bracket supplied for the main bedroom wasn’t suitable for the client’s viewing requirements.

However:

• the other bedroom already had a compatible bracket

• so we removed that one

• installed a fresh bracket in the second bedroom

• and then moved the original bracket into the main bedroom

This gave the client exactly what they wanted without needing to buy another bracket.

What We Did

1. Located Stud Work

Used a magnetic StudBuddy finder to track the fixings in the stud wall.
This ensured the TV mount went into solid timber, not plasterboard alone.

2. Installed TV Brackets (Two Rooms)

• Fitted a new bracket in the second bedroom

• Drilled fresh holes to fit it properly

• Filled the old holes to keep the wall tidy

• Installed the older bracket into the main bedroom

• Mounted both TVs securely

Used Fischer fixings to anchor into stud work for long-term stability.

3. Built a Keter Outdoor Shed

A full plastic Keter shed build:

• located a flat surface

• assembled the walls

• fixed the roof

• installed the internal supports

• ensured doors aligned correctly

The weather was unusually good for November — perfect for outdoor assembly.

4. Shelves (To Be Completed on Return Visit)

Ran out of time, so shelves will be done during the next visit along with:

• additional light switch replacements

• flatpack furniture assembly (wardrobe + sideboard)

Duration

Started late due to heavy rain, school run and traffic.
10:00am – 3:30pm

Customer Reaction

They were:

• very happy

• impressed with the TV mounting

• relieved the shed was up

• and pleased they figured out a safer plan for the electrical work

They’ve booked a return visit for multiple jobs.
