Front Garden Venetian Fence – Heaton Moor Privacy & Pet Safety

Today’s job was over on Hawthorn Road, Heaton Moor — a busy little spot where the client wanted to solve two common problems: privacy from passing foot traffic and keeping her small dog Spike from running into the street.

The existing wall was stepped and low — easy for Spike to clear and not offering much visual cover. The brief was to build something clean, strong, and modern using Venetian-style slatted fencing, customised to the layout of the front garden.

What We Installed

We built a bespoke Venetian fence using tanalised wood from Stockport Timber, our usual supplier. This was a one-day build (around six hours total), with the following materials:

Tanalised 2x4 uprights and framing
45x18mm horizontal slats, hand-cut
Treated fixings for outdoor durability

The final look followed the step-line of the wall, with each fence panel cut to follow the elevation changes while still appearing level from the street. The client originally requested a straight, full-length design — but changed her mind on the day, opting to follow the stepped layout. This meant we had surplus materials that couldn’t be returned, which was handled and paid for as part of the job.

Neighbours, Dogs, and Details

There were no real site issues — but some interpersonal diplomacy was required. A neighbour previously had concerns about fence height and positioning. While it wasn’t our legal responsibility, we took the time to explain the plan and avoid future tension. A quick chat cleared it up — the kind of soft skill that often makes the difference on residential jobs like this.

Client Reaction & Final Notes

The client wasn’t home when we wrapped the job, but photos were sent — and she was very happy with how it turned out. The fence now gives her both visual cover from the pavement and a secure boundary to keep Spike from escaping.

The design is solid, smart, and doesn’t overwhelm the small front space — making it a perfect choice for front gardens in tighter urban areas like Heaton Moor.
